Bayesian inference and the parametric bootstrap.
The parametric bootstrap can be used for the efficient computation of Bayes posterior distributions. Importance sampling formulas take on an easy form relating to the deviance in exponential families, and are particularly simple starting from Jeffreys invariant prior. Because of the i.i.d. nature of bootstrap sampling, familiar formulas describe the computational accuracy of the Bayes estimates...
متن کاملUnbiased emission factor estimators for large scale forest 1 inventories : domain assessment techniques
Large scale forest inventories are often undertaken following a stratified ran7 dom or systematic design. Yet the strata rarely correspond to the reporting areas of 8 interest (domains) over which the country wants to report specific variables. The process 9 is exemplified by a country aiming to use national forest inventory data to obtain aver10 age biomass estimates per forest type for GHGI i...
متن کاملInference for Imputation Estimators
We derive an estimator of the asymptotic variance of both single and multiple imputation estimators. We assume a parametric imputation model but allow for non-and semipara-metric analysis models. Our variance estimator, in contrast to the estimator proposed by Rubin (1987), is consistent even when the imputation and analysis models are misspecified and incompatible with one another.
متن کاملBootstrap Inference in Econometrics
The astonishing increase in computer performance over the past two decades has made it possible for economists to base many statistical inferences on simulated, or bootstrap, distributions rather than on distributions obtained from asymptotic theory. In this paper, I review some of the basic ideas of bootstrap inference. The paper discusses Monte Carlo tests, several types of bootstrap test, an...
متن کاملAdaptive Cluster Sampling for Forest Inventories
FRANCIS A. ROESCH, JR. Adaptive cluster sampling is shown to be a viable alternative for sampling forests when there are rare characteristics of the forest trees which are of interest and occur on clustered trees. The ideas of recent work in Thompson (1990) have been extended to the case in which the initial sample is selected with unequal probabilities. An example is given in which the initial...
